ArtSpeak: Cian Dayrit in conversation with Isabel Nazareno

Ateneo Art Gallery presents ArtSpeak: Cian Dayrit in conversation with Isabel Nazareno on the 23rd of November, Thursday, 3:30-5:00 pm at Ateneo Art Gallery in Areté. Winner of the Ateneo Art Awards 2017 – Fernando Zóbel Prizes for Visual Art and recipient of the La Trobe Art Institute residency grant, Dayrit will speak to us about his art practice, and his winning works in the group show, Exposition held at the Lopez Museum and Library. The artist’s presentation will be followed by a conversation with Isabel Nazareno, faculty member of both the Department of History and the Department of Fine Arts.

About the speakers

Cian Dayrit is an intermedia artist working with painting, sculpture, and installation. Straddling between fact and fiction, Dayrit’s works explore origins and histories, and their re-presentations in visual apparatuses, from the map, curiosity cabinet, and on to the museum. He received a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from UP Diliman in 2011, where his final project titled Artefact X was awarded Most Outstanding Thesis. His recent solo exhibitions include Spectacles of the Third World at Tin-Aw Gallery (2015); Polycephalousat Artinformal (2014); and The Bla-Bla Archaeological Complex at the UP Vargas Museum (2013). He participated in the group exhibitions titled Exposition at the Lopez Memorial Museum (2016) and Almost There at UP Vargas Museum (2017). Dayrit won the Ateneo Art Awards 2017 – Fernando Zóbel Prizes for Visual Art and received the La Trobe Art Institute residency grant.
Isabel Nazareno is a faculty member of both the Department of History and the Department of Fine Arts.  She authored the monograph Discovering Manansala and is currently Executive Director of the Ateneo Library of Women’s Writings.
