Last Post is a return show, so called because it shows a glimpse into my experience in Art Omi, the last art residency I attended in New York.  In my three week stay I was problem solving while continuing my exploration of cardboard as a material.  More than simply creating geometric forms, I wanted these cardboard sculptures to reflect what I have been doing all along with the rest of my works, whether in painting or soft sculpture.  That is, my work has always been an exploration of composition; its basis of production, formal at its core.  The importance of material and modes of production are always apparent, and the form the work takes in its finality is always deliberate.  That said, the problems in composition I wish to explore do not end in the work’s materiality, so cardboard, paint, resin is mixed in with narrative and idea and an equation results.  Art Omi was an opportunity to reflect on my work, and as a last post, my last letter to self, a last, or perhaps lasting state of mind, I’ve realized that my work with cardboard has been a great place to combine the formal with the narrative, the material with the immaterial, and  I suppose Last Post, more than anything, is a place where I am laying things out raw, to be part of the audience myself, to prepare myself for the next post.
